MetLife Coverage Availability & Fees
MetLife offers several dental plans, each of which is unique in the coverage it offers and the stipulations it enforces. You should take a look at your specific policy to find out how it works. In the meantime, here is a general overview of the coverage that is often available with standard dental plans:
- Preventive care is usually up to 100% covered.
- Minor services may be up to 80% covered.
- Major services are often 50% covered.
- Orthodontic services may be up to 50% covered under some plans.
Here are a few additional points to keep in mind about how MetLife dental insurance might apply to orthodontia:
- You may have a lifetime orthodontic maximum. In other words, your plan might cover braces and similar services just once in your lifetime. It may also have a spending limit of $1,000 - $3,000.
- Not all MetLife plans cover orthodontic services. Some of their premium PPO plans provide coverage, as do some of their TakeAlong Dental plans.
- There might be age restrictions. Some plans only provide orthodontic coverage for patients under 19.
- Some services might be excluded. For example, if a plan covers traditional braces, it might not cover clear aligners.
