Even if you’ve had your Invisalign aligners for a long time, the holiday season may test your ability to stay on track with your treatment. This goes double if you’re going out of the town or seeing family for the holidays; an unfamiliar environment can take you out of your routine, and disrupt your ability to properly take care of your orthodontics.
For that reason, it’s a good idea to think a little bit beforehand about what you can do to make sure you stay on track with your Invisalign treatment. Here are some tips that may help you.
Avoid Snacking Throughout the Day
As you probably know if you’ve worn your aligners for any time at all, the most challenging part can rigorously cleaning them after meals. If you’re snacking through the day, you might be tempted to either stop taking them out whenever you eat, or to leave them out all day. These are both bad ideas, so to avoid being tempted, you might instead just want to eat all at once and avoid snacking.
Watch What You Drink
In a similar vein, you should be cautious about what you drink while wearing your Invisalign aligners. Soda and red wine are both ubiquitous this time of year, and if you have any while wearing your trays you could potentially coat them unnecessarily in sugar.
And that’s not even the worst of it. As temperatures start to fall, hot drinks also become much harder to resist. Drinking them while wearing your trays could cause them to warp, requiring them to be replaced.
When wearing your aligners, you should make it a point to only drink room temperature water and save anything else for mealtime. If you can’t resist a little bit of hot chocolate, you should take your trays off beforehand.
Get the Right Tools
Cleaning your Invisalign aligners without the proper tools can cause serious problems, so if you’re traveling you may want to get equipped. A travel dental kit containing a toothbrush, floss, and Invisalign cleaning crystals can make orthodontics care much easier on the go.
